Despite being rejected last year by the profit-oriented tycoons on The BBC’s Dragons’ Den, Simon’s quest for Foundation funding continued and his efforts have at last been rewarded with money “from an altogether more progressive and enlightened source: the Spark Investment programme” – as the Guardian newspaper put it. |
After becoming one of 15 finalists in this year’s Spark Challenge, spending months preparing our proposal and two tough days pitching to a panel of experts, we were delighted to learn on 8 July that our social enterprise has been awarded £60,000 from the prize fund. As Simon said: “...we are able to, amongst other things, employ a CEO to help develop the Beyond Boyle Foundation to be able to inspire, support and employ even more vulnerable people and change their lives forever!” The Guardian was sufficiently impressed by the award to publish an enthusiastic article by Patrick Butler, their head of society, health and education, praising the way the Spark investment can deliver “potentially lucrative returns on investment in terms of individual skills development and self-esteem, and more broadly, in reducing welfare dependency”. |
