We hope you had a brilliant Christmas and New Year break!
Well, what a year 2009 was. It was full of highs and a few lows for us all but on the whole we worked hard for what was a successful 2009. So here goes for the next 12 months.
We are trying to make this newsletter a bit shorter, so if there is something that interests you and you would like more information, please get in touch.
In January, February and March we are focusing on adding vitality to Team Events. It’s always good to get together at the start of the year to review and revitalize your team in mind, body and soul. There is no better place to do this than Beyond Boyle by the Tower, where we can inspire and nourish your relationships in our unique, fundamental and highly effective way. You can learn more about Team Events below.
In this edition I have included an old recipe favourite of mine: Grilled Mackerel with Pomegranate and Manuka Honey. It’s a mind blower, as it tastes great but is also fab for the brain as well as the heart.
We hope you have a fantastic year and that we see you very soon
Best wishes
Simon Boyle

To celebrate the launch of our yummy Beyond Chocolates range (available in selected Waitrose branches and here in our online shop) we recently held a party at Beyond Boyle for clients, friends and family, and also for the lovely people who were involved in the design and production of the chocolates and their innovative packaging. Signature dishes were served throughout the evening, using our Live Kitchen concept. The menu included:
- Jerusalem Artichoke Soup with Truffle Oil and Cèpes
- Chicken and Ham Hock Terrine with Winter Chutney
- Tablehurst Lamb Tagine
- Mille-feuille of Hammerwood Pigeon with Spiced Beetroot Risotto
- Stinking Bishop and Cumin Soufflé, Spiced Pear Salsa
- Pedroximez Romptoff
- Beyond Chocolates
During the evening live music was provided by Scarletta and Dee and Vodka mixologists served up some wonderful cocktails – the chocolate martini was a particular favourite! Thanks to all who came and helped to make it a memorable evening.

We’ve been on the road recently, attending a couple of trade shows.
We took part in Masterchef Live, where we had a stand to promote and sell our Beyond Chocolate Truffles.
We also took part in The Taste of Christmas, alongside our friends at Waitrose, where not only did we promote our chocolates, but also Simon demonstrated throughout the weekend.

Here are some of our corporate and personal event highlights for November and December.
Natmags evening
For Natmags (the National Magazine Company) we hosted a two-course post-award ceremony dinner for House Beautiful magazine.
Simon took part in the judging of the House Beautiful awards and attended the award ceremony. Afterwards, 30 guests arrived at the Beyond Boyle venue at 10pm. The menu featured:
- Boudin of Hammerwood Estate Pheasant with Harissa, Pine Nuts and Plump Raisins on Spiced Baby Gem and Moroccan Jus
- Dark Chocolate and Banana Soufflé, Lime Sweet Cream, Rum Sorbet
The meal was the climax of an exciting event: “Thank you for a wonderful evening at Beyond Boyle. Our clients were bowled over by the experience of dining with you and your marvellous team (I knew they would not be disappointed!) and it was the perfect end to a successful evening.” – The Editor, House Beautiful

Unilever held a cook school at Beyond Boyle to promote a new product to one of the leading supermarkets. We tailored our menu to promote the ingredient to the supermarket buyers. Following the cook school, there was a meeting to discuss the product.
The event was a success: “Wanted to say a big thank you to the team for Tuesday. The afternoon went well, and I think the buyers were really impressed with the new product – I know the senior buyer certainly enjoyed using his butchery skills again! Please could you pass my thanks on to the team, and wish everyone good luck for the chocolate launch on Monday – they taste great!”

This special gathering at Beyond Boyle was for 70 guests, half of whom were children. The fun began with homemade smoothies for the youngsters and specially selected Californian wines for the adults and then the children took part in a lively biscuit-decorating activity. The specially tailored menu was designed to satisfy both the adults and the children, and featured:
- Roasted Tablehurst Chicken with Garlic and Winter Rosemary Butter
- Handmade Osney Lodge Sausages with Honey and Shallot Glaze
- Meantime Buttered Salmon with Rustic Tartare Sauce
- Panettone and Butter Pudding Topped with Beyond Boyle Compote
Everyone had a great time: “Suzanne, a proper thank you note is in the post but I just wanted to let you know that our triple celebration party on Saturday was perfect in every way!!!! We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and so did all of our guests ¬– including the children!!! Thank you so much for all that you, Simon, Jan, Martin and the team on the day did to make it possible. We loved every minute.

During December we have hosted many cook schools – as Christmas parties. Our clients for these included Gen Re, Prudential, London 2012 and Artillery.

“I wanted to say thank you to EVERYONE involved in our recent events. Both were a tremendous success. Last night many of our team told me that they had been to similar events before and so were dubious as we walked over to the restaurant. However they were very pleasantly surprised and said that this was in a completely different league and a COMPLETE success. Everyone is looking forward to trying out the recipes at home, I might even ask for a pasta maker for Christmas!!! – Prudential
“I just wanted to say a big thank you from all of us at Artillery for a fantastic Christmas party last week. We had a really good time, our cooks definitely showed some hidden talent and everyone enjoyed Simon’s demonstration. What a fantastic night!” – Artillery.
“Thanks for arranging the session last week. We all had a fantastic time with Simon and his team!” –London 2012.

This year we offered our special Christmas lunches every lunchtime throughout December – our menu included a wonderful Christmas cocktail on arrival followed by a three-course meal.
We also hosted some great Christmas dinner parties – in particular a bowl food party for Gen Re and a sit down dinner, held in Trinity House (for which we are suggested caterers) for Argo International.

2009 was a huge year for Beyond Boyle – here are some of our highlights:

In the New Year, we welcome Rebecca Sycamore as CEO of the Beyond Boyle Foundation.
We already have some great events in place for 2010 – including a birthday party for 80 with a masquerade style ball and a formal Burns Night Supper to be held in All Hallows Church.
And we will roll out new business plans to make Beyond Boyle bigger and better!

Finally, here’s this month’s recipe – Grilled Fillet of Cornish Mackerel on Wilted Rocket with Pomegranate and Honey Dressing.
It’s a great way to start the New Year, because not only does it taste great, it’s also fabulous food for your brain and your heart!
